GlossaryOpportunity Engine

Opportunity Engine

The Opportunity Engine is a scoring and ranking system that identifies high-leverage SEO and content moves from your website's performance signals.

Also known as: seo-opportunity-scoring · growth-opportunity-radar

Why it matters

Not all SEO work is equal. The Opportunity Engine separates noise from leverage: a page one position away from page one, a post losing clicks year over year, two URLs splitting the same intent. Ranking opportunities by impact stops teams from optimizing pages that do not move revenue.

How it works

On each data sync, the engine evaluates query-page pairs, impression trends, position bands, and overlap patterns. It tags opportunity types, striking distance, decay, cannibalization, gap, assigns scores using configurable weights, and feeds Mission Briefs and the AI Analyst. Opportunities deep-link to the URLs and queries involved.

Common mistakes

  • Chasing high-impression, zero-conversion opportunities because the score looks exciting.
  • Fixing cannibalization by deleting content instead of consolidating and redirecting.
  • Ignoring opportunities on non-brand queries that actually drive pipeline.
  • Clearing low-effort opportunities while ignoring one high-impact refresh.

Best practices

  • Filter opportunities by landing pages tied to conversions or revenue.
  • Batch striking-distance updates: title, intro, internal links, and FAQ on one URL.
  • Document consolidation decisions when resolving cannibalization.
  • Re-score after publishes and redirects so the queue stays honest.

Learn Domains perspective

Your `/features/reporting` page ranks position 9 for a query with 12,000 monthly impressions. The Opportunity Engine surfaces that striking-distance win ahead of low-impact tweaks, with the URL and query attached so you can open a refresh draft in one click.

FAQ
